Planning and Building Services

The Planning and Building Services Division is responsible for administering various City Ordinances, and implementing adopted plans and policies which regulate the many land uses and new development that ultimately create the living and working environment in the City of Beloit. The Planning staff works with citizens to provide information, and does research and analysis on existing and proposed land uses. They also provide staff support to the members of the Plan Commission, Board of Appeals, Landmarks Commission and Metropolitan Planning Organization (SLATS).

BUILDING PLAN REVIEW

The City's Building Inspectors review plans for all one and two-family projects and minor commercial/industrial alterations.  Plans for major commercial/industrial alterations, additions, and new construction require review by either the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services or the City's plan review consultant - E-Plan Exam.  E-Plan Exam currently reviews Building, HVAC, Plumbing (interior and site), Fire Alarm, and Fire Suppression plans which can be submitted online or by clicking their logo on the left.  Contact a Building Inspector for more information.

BUILDING PERMIT INFORMATION

The purpose of the Building Code is to provide minimum standards for the protection of life, limb, health, property, environment, and for the safety and welfare of the general public, consumers, owners and occupants of residential, commercial, industrial and public buildings. Building Code/Permits control all matters concerning the construction, alteration, addition, repair, removal, demolition, use, location, occupancy and maintenance of all buildings and structures and their service equipment and appurtenances located in the city.

BUILDING PERMITS REQUIRED

A permit is required before beginning construction, alteration, repair, improvement, demolition or moving any building or structure, including mobile homes.
