Non-Profit Youth Programming

The services that will be provided at Merrill Community Center are STEM related educational field trips and free weekly music lessons.  Some of the field trips that have been discussed are the Madison or Milwaukee zoo, Shed Aquarium, Lincoln Park Kids Science labs, Discovery Center, and Willowbrook Wildlife Center.

Community Action wants to be certain that it is able to provide enrichment to the youth and give them an experience that they will hopefully cherish into adulthood.

The Castle currently is providing music lessons to the youth served at the Merrill Community Center. Community Action would like to continue with their lessons so the students know how to properly use the instrument and learn to play.  Community Action would like to purchase additional instruments so the children are able to practice even when the instructor is not available.  

Beloit Fresh Start YouthBuild targets young people ages 16-24 in the City of Beloit who have dropped out of high school or are on the verge of dropping out.

Fresh Start participants typically live in low-income housing in low-income neighborhoods where drugs, alcohol, police interaction and violence regularly occur. The funding will assist in providing transportation to education and employment opportunities and provide funding for educational outings such as campus visits, facility tours and educational venues to expose youth to additional post-secondary educational opportunities as well as new career paths. 

Teaching softball is a way to physically and actively engage youth. Through this program, youth build  skills that can create a positive impact at home, school and community. The City-Wide Youth Softball teaches teamwork and responsibility.

Most of the youth served can never get a chance like this because of the financial burden it would put on families. Respect, trust building, team work, working with authority, softball, and food, are all services provided to the city's youth. 

The grant funds three-day field trips for all Beloit 5th graders to Big Hill Park.

Welty Environmental Center's youth programming proposal is funding for three-day, extended field trips for all City of Beloit 5th graders (School District of Beloit and The Lincoln Academy), to take place at the Center at Big Hill Park in the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years and serve about 800 students.

Each day would begin at the home school, students would be bused to Big Hill Park for a 6-hour school day including lunch and snacks, and would then return in time for their usual pick-up. Each building would send their entire 5th grade (50-60 students per visit), which allows for many of that school’s staff to participate in the learning, without disrupting building schedules. 

This program enables Beloit youth to participate in training classes through a scholarship.

This scholarship gives time five days a week to keep the youth involved, building self control, learning rules, working out, training, structure, stability and around positive role models. As the Stateline Family YMCA graciously honors Rojas Boxing Gym memberships, that greatly expands the hours youth can be in a positive environment doing things that expand their health and building positive habits for the future.   

Youth training classes will have mandatory attendance. Three "no call, no shows" will result in a loss of the scholarship and the remainder of that one year scholarship being awarded to the next eligible applicant. 

 Stateline Boys & Girls Clubs serve all members age 6 to 18. All programs follow the 5 Key elements of Positive Youth Development:

• Recognition
• Supportive relationships

The Stateline Boys and Girls Club programs all focus on 3 Core Areas: Academic Success (through STEAM, Creativity and Literacy), Good Character and Citizenship including College and Workforce Development and Leadership and Character, along with Healthy Lifestyles.

SBGC strives to be a leader in youth development in the Stateline area. Through partnerships with local businesses and organizations, schools, and individual caring adults, we are able to make an impact on our youth and develop the relationships that allow young people to flourish within their communities. Additionally, our extension sit CareerTek provides youth with opportunities to develop career exploration and job readiness. All of our programming is centered around academic success, character development and healthy lifestyles.

The Scouting program is designed to be an in-person opportunity for youth to gain personal fitness, citizenship and outdoor skills.

The adventures are mentored by adult volunteers who implement the program. There is a rank assigned to each grade level. Each scouting unit is made up of weekly den meetings to work on adventures and a once a month pack meeting to feature the achievements and award the scouts. 

Attempts were made by some units to proceed virtually during COVID but proved impossible. That created a huge decline in activities and the number of scout units and enrolled youth. The program decline was most evident in low-income neighborhoods where the financial means to find alternate recreation is a challenge. The number of registered scouts dropped by 68%.
