Sewers
Storm Sewers
The city provides the following maintenance for the storm sewers:
- Removal and replacement of broken/sunken castings.
- Removal of debris from the top of storm sewer grates along curb-line.
- Rebuilding of storm sewer manholes and broken tiles.
Please remember during HEAVY rainstorms, it may take 30-45 minutes after the rain stops for storm sewers to relieve roadways of water.
If water is still standing after a rain, additional storm sewer maintenance may be needed. All requests should be directed to the Water Resource Facility at (608) 364-2888.
Plugged storm sewers are not related to water backing up in your basement drains. Refer all requests for sewer backups in your basement to the Water Resource Facility.
City ordinance also prohibits any obstruction in the street or gutter that restricts the flow of water. Yard waste and any waste liquid or solid in gutter, street, or alley is prohibited.
PLEASE DO NOT PLACE ANYTHING IN THE STORM SEWER!
THEY ARE FOR RAIN WATER ONLY!
Sanitary Sewers
The sanitary sewer is usually located in the middle of the street.
The following maintenance is provided by the streets work group:
- Removal and replacement of the metal casting.
- Rebuilding of the manhole.
Any sanitary manhole lids that are loose/rocking should be reported to the Water Resources Facility at (608) 364-2888.
Any sanitary or storm sewer castings with missing/broken covers should be reported to the Operations facility at (608) 364-2929.
The small 6” or 8” water/gas shut off valves (located in the roadway or on the terrace) are owned and maintained by Alliant Energy at 1-800-862-6222.
