Downtown Riverwalk Ribbon Cutting
When:The City of Beloit is unveiling the new downtown Beloit Riverwalk extension with the completion of the year-long project at 80-100 E. Grand Avenue. The ribbon cutting will be held at noon Tuesday, July 15, on the Riverwalk path.
Groups involved in the demolition of the vacant building and construction of the riverwalk path will provide brief remarks prior to the ribbon cutting. Following the ribbon cutting, guests are welcome to explore the path.
The riverwalk path and Grand Avenue bridge were opened on June 23 following the completion of the project.
The public-private development involved demolishing the vacant structure that protruded over the Rock River. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) required that the existing 11,380 square foot structure be removed by year 2042.
The City was awarded a Municipal Flood Control Grant and a Stewardship Local Assistance, Federal Land & Water Conservation Fund, & Recreational Trails Program Grant by the WDNR to assist with funding the project in support of removal of the structure from the Rock River and to create the riverwalk extension. The City of Beloit funded $500,000 for the riverwalk extension; however, no city funds are being used to demolish the building. A local grant match is being provided by the developers of the property.
The City of Beloit will maintain ownership of the riverwalk area while the future developer, East Grand Development LLC, a Hendricks company, intends to build a four-story, 48,000 square foot building that could include a restaurant, commercial uses, office, and/or residential use.
