Public Information Meeting Scheduled for Wisconsin/White Ave Intersection Improvements

The City of Beloit is holding a public information meeting to gather input from residents on proposed improvements at the intersection of White and Wisconsin avenues.

The meeting will be held 5-6pm Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Department of Public Works Engineering Facility, 2400 Springbrook Court, Beloit. The meeting will begin with a brief project presentation followed by a question-and-answer session with a representative from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT).

WisDOT has received a Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) Grant to address traffic safety issues at the intersection of White Avenue and Wisconsin Avenue. This intersection has a history of high accident rates, primarily due to vehicles crossing White Ave or making left turns onto or off of Wisconsin Ave. From 2017-2021, the 37 accidents occurred at the intersection, including eight injury-causing accidents.

Proposed Safety Improvements

WisDOT plans to install a raised median on White Avenue at Wisconsin Avenue to:

  • Restrict left turns and straight movements on Wisconsin Avenue
  • Allow only right turns onto and off of Wisconsin Avenue

This change aims to reduce accidents and improve overall safety at the intersection.

Before proceeding with the project design, WisDOT requires the City of Beloit’s concurrence. The City is holding this public meeting to gather input from residents on the proposed improvement before providing concurrence to WisDOT.

The construction date is to be determined.
