Woman Posing as City Utility Working Knocking on Homes in Beloit
**UPDATE: Beloit Police made contact with the solicitor. It does not appear she identified herself as part of the City of Beloit; that information was based on a misunderstanding by the reporting parties. The solicitor was warned about obtaining a proper permit to solicit in Beloit.
We received a report of a woman knocking on a door and stating in Spanish that she was from the City of Beloit and needed to come into the residence to test their water.
This was not a city employee and we do not do in-house water testing.
While we do have employees knocking on doors regarding water meters and fixing equipment, we are not doing any services that require payment or testing water. Those individuals will be carrying a City of Beloit identification card and drive vehicles with a City of Beloit logo on it.
If you’re uncertain of who is at your home, you can call Water Resources at (608) 364-2888. If it seems suspicious, the non-emergency number is 608-757-2244.
