City of Beloit to Accept Plastics, Packaging Materials at Recycling Drop-Off Center
After a successful special collection of plastics, Styrofoam and other packaging materials, the City of Beloit Department of Public Works is now offering weekly collections for hard-to recycle items at no additional cost.
Starting Saturday, April 4, residents in the City of Beloit, Town of Beloit and Town of Turtle can bring the following materials to be recycled at the drop-off center at 2351 Springbrook Court between 9am and noon Saturdays:
- Styrofoam
- Plastic Wrap from paper products or beverages
- Cereal bags
- Ice bags
- Clothing bags (from online orders)
- Dry cleaner bags
- Plastic grocery bags
- Plastic straws
- Bubble wrap
- Packing peanuts
- Stretch wrap
- Plastic mailers
- Other plastic baggies
These items should not go in the curbside recycling bins.
While this initiative will continue to support opportunities to reduce waste going to landfills, the following must be done to ensure proper recycling:
- Clean plastics only; any containers that previously held liquids must be rinsed and emptied
- No metal; any objects that contain metal must have the metal removed or it cannot be recycled
- No food residue
- No salt bags
- No chip bags
- No landscaping bags (soil, mulch, etc)
- No candy wrappers
- No paper shipping bags (Even if they have plastic/bubble wrap liners)
“We look forward to seeing you there and supporting our communities’ efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle,” said Joshua Vining, Director of Operations.
