City of Beloit to Hold Special Collection for Plastics, Packaging Materials
Do you have an overabundance of plastic grocery bags, styrofoam, packing peanuts or bubble wrap due to the holiday season of shopping and packages being delivered? Help us divert these materials from the landfill to be reused elsewhere.
The City of Beloit Department of Public Works is holding a special collection for plastics and styrofoam that can’t go in the recycling bins; the materials will be reused rather than being thrown away. The collection will be held from 9am to noon Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Recycling Drop Off Center, 2351 Springbrook Court.
This collection is for residents in the City of Beloit, Town of Beloit and Town of Turtle.
All materials must be clean and contain no food. Other items like glass or cardboard cannot go in the bins.
The collection will include:
- Plastic wrap on paper products
- Plastic wrap on beverages
- Plastic grocery bags
- Plastic mailers
- Plastic straws
- Styrofoam
- Bubble wrap
- Packing peanuts
- Stretch wrap
- Plastic
baggies
The city’s recycling vendor, Pellitteri, will take the materials and provide them to Brightmark for reuse, keeping these hard-to-degrade items out of the landfill.
“Whether you’re decluttering old packages or getting ready for the holiday season, this collection is designed to help discard the excess materials you may have in your home,” said Josh Vining, Director of Operations for DPW.
