Beloit Transit Proposed Fare Increases
Beloit Transit is proposing a fare increase for the first time since 2008 to address increased costs of labor, fuel, and other expenses essential to operations. The proposal to increase fares would help mitigate the increased costs while providing reliable transit service for the Beloit community.
“Beloit
Transit’s regular fare has remained at $1.50 since 2008, and its current fares
are among the lowest in the region,” said Teri Bown, Deputy Community
Development Director. “The proposed fare adjustments would help offset a
portion of these increased costs and support reliable transit service while
bringing Beloit’s fares more in line with those charged by other public transit
agencies in Wisconsin and Illinois.”
Members of the community are invited to share comments with the City Council
from September 21-October 21, 2026. There are multiple ways to provide
feedback:

The proposed changes would go into effect on January 1, 2027, if approved by the City Council. Fares for the Beloit-Janesville Express and students ages 5-18 will not be impacted.
The proposed fares are in line with fares charged by other public transit agencies in the region. Transfers were eliminated in fall 2025 with the implementation of WisGo cards and fare capping. Riders must use a WisGo card or the Umo app for fare capping benefits. Fare capping automatically limits how much riders pay each week or month.
