Beloit City Council Approves Sale of Three Lots to Habitat for Humanity

The Beloit City Council on Monday, August 3, approved an offer to purchase three City-owned lots for $1 to Habitat for Humanity Waukesha – Jefferson – Rock (Habitat WJR), clearing the way for new affordable housing in Beloit.

The lots include:

●       507 St. Lawrence Ave.

●       1223 St. Lawrence Ave.

●       514 Highland Ave.

All three lots sit in Beloit’s Hackett neighborhood, where Habitat WJR intends to build single-family, affordable homes for local families. The offer to purchase requires closing by March 1, 2027.

“This project builds on the City's long-standing commitment to revitalizing the Hackett neighborhood through strategic partnerships and targeted investment,” said City Manager Daniel Ortiz-Hernandez. “Neighborhood revitalization requires more than a broad vision. It requires improving individual properties, one investment at a time as opportunities present themselves. Expanding quality, affordable housing is one of Beloit's greatest opportunities, and projects like this strengthen the Hackett neighborhood, attract additional investment, and improve quality of life throughout our community.”

The purchase builds on the momentum Habitat WJR has built since expanding into Rock County in 2025, and reflects growing partnerships with local government, funders, and businesses across the county.
