Community Invited to Unified Development Ordinance Design Workshop

The City of Beloit is updating its code to create modern and flexible development standards, and the community is invited to participate in the process with a workshop scheduled for 5-8pm Thursday, Nov. 13, at Beloit Public Library, 605 Eclipse Blvd.

This interactive workshop will give participants an opportunity to share ideas and help shape how Beloit’s neighborhoods and commercial districts look and function.

The updates in the Unified Development Ordinance will include:

  •         Zoning
  •         Outdoor signage
  •         Parcel subdivision
  •         Architectural review and landscaping
  •         Historic preservation
  •         Streets and Sidewalks

The session will be facilitated by the City’s planning and zoning consultants, Kendig Keast Collaborative, who are leading the development of Beloit’s new unified development code. The updates will streamline zoning and land development standards into the city’s municipal code while supporting the community’s vision for growth and redevelopment. The plan to modernize the zoning code is included in the Comprehensive Plan 2045, which was adopted by City Council in 2023.

All are welcome to attend—no design experience is necessary. Residents, business owners, and those interested in the community are encouraged to attend and provide input.

Upon completion of a draft code, the Beloit Plan Commission and Beloit City Council will review the changes with public hearings before taking formal action on any changes to city ordinances.
