Streets Honorarily Renamed After Emetta Young, Ocie Peterson
The Beloit City Council approved honorary street renamings recognizing two remarkable community members whose legacies continue to inspire our city.
Ocie Peterson Avenue – St. Paul and Park avenues honors Ocie Peterson, a respected leader, advocate, and lifelong supporter of Beloit’s neighborhoods and youth. She served as a manager of the Turtle Creek Swimming Pool for over 20 years, fostering opportunities for recreation, mentorship, and youth development in the Beloit community. She worked to advance equality, women’s rights, and social justice.
Emetta Young Avenue – Dewey Avenue between Keeler Avenue and Switch Track Alley celebrates Emetta Young, who served her community on the Rock County Board of Supervisors and other boards, volunteering in the community, and hosting Cabbage Patch parties to promote positive interactions between kids and adults.
These honorary designations celebrate their decades of service, compassion, and dedication to building a stronger Beloit.
