State Street Resurfacing Project Starting August 18 in Beloit

Construction begins Monday, August 18, 2025, on WIS 213 (State Street) from the Illinois State Line to Broad Street in Beloit. This project is being completed by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

Construction is expected to be completed in early- to mid-fall.


The project will improve pavement conditions, upgrade curb ramps to meet ADA standards, and replace the railroad crossing surface and signals.

Project

  • Pavement resurfacing: Removing 2 inches of existing asphalt and replacing it with new pavement from the state line to Broad Street.
  • ADA-compliant curb ramps: Upgrades at Shirland Avenue/State Street and Saint Paul Avenue/State Street.
  • Railroad crossing improvements: New surface, updated signals, and detectable warning fields.

Traffic & Access

  • WIS 213 will remain open for most of the project.
  • Two short full closures will occur for the railroad crossing replacement and milling/paving. Dates for these closures are not yet determined.
  • During closures, the official detour will be: Broad Street (USH 51) to Illinois 75 to Blackhawk Blvd/State Street.
  • Access to most intersections and businesses will be maintained, but there will be temporary access limitations during full closures.
