Department's detectives are assigned to the Detective Bureau and the bureau's administrator reviews all police incident reports. The detective bureau commander assigns cases back to the officer who took the original report, or to a detective if the case facts meet the criteria for a detective to be assigned the follow-up investigation.
The Detective Bureau has created the Violent Crimes Interdiction Team (VCIT). This new unit is responsible for locating and arresting current wanted felony suspects, wanted felony fugitives, gang investigations and intelligence, and gun cases. The VCIT will work in partnership with the Detective Bureau personnel as well as an array of federal partners. The specific focus is identifying, locating and arresting persons involved in violent crimes in Beloit, addressing locations in which these crimes and or persons frequent, and identifying and arresting those who are illegally distributing firearms in the City of Beloit.
