Chief Pease was named as fire chief of the City of Beloit Fire Department in May 2020. He joined the department in 2018 as assistant chief, leading the department’s fire rescue operations and personnel management. Pease also serves as a shift commander, overseeing one of the department’s 24-hour shifts.
Pease joined the Beloit Fire Department after serving as fire chief at the Highland Park Fire Department, a position he held since 2014. He moved his way through the ranks after beginning his career with the Highland Park Fire Department as a firefighter/paramedic in 1987. He served on the Board of Directors for Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Division 3 and the Northern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy, as well as serving as chair for the City of Highland Park’s Safety Review Board.
Pease’s recent accomplishments at Highland Park include negotiating and implementing an intergovernmental agreement to provide fire, EMS and inspection services for the City of Highwood in 2015 and 2016, negotiating a three-year contract agreement with the Illinois Association of Fire Fighters Local 822 in 2015, and maintaining the department’s accreditation status in 2017.
Pease holds a Bachelor of Arts in fire science technology from Southern Illinois University and a Master of Business Administration in business/public administration from Columbia Southern University.

During his career at the Beloit Fire Department, D.C. Griffin has demonstrated his leadership abilities in his lead roles in new recruit training and on the department’s swift water rescue team, which was deployed to Burlington Wi, Brodhead Wi, and Madison Wi for flooding. He also is a squad officer for the Wisconsin Urban Search and Rescue Task Force Team with deployments to Cambria, WI, factory explosion and Hurricane Irma in Jacksonville Florida. D.C. Griffin has also taken an active role in community outreach with fire prevention and Junior Fire Setters Program at the City of Beloit Fire Department.
D.C. Griffin has obtained a Bachelor of Science in fire science from Lake Superior State University in Michigan. He also holds an associate degree in fire science from Madison Area Technical College and an associate degree in homeland security from Lake Superior State University.
