Equal Opportunities Commission

Description:  The Commission has been created to improve the quality of life by the elimination of racism in the Beloit community. The purpose of the commission is to take action, study, analyze and recommend solutions with respect to the major social, economic and cultural problems that affect people residing or working within the City, including discrimination in housing, education, employment and public accommodations and facilities. It also enforces equal opportunity in housing for all residents of the City, and receives and investigates all complaints alleging discriminatory practices in the provisions of fair and equal access to housing or housing accommodations on the basis of sex, race, color, sexual orientation, handicap, religion, national origin, familial status, sex or marital status of the person maintaining a household, lawful source of income, and age or ancestry.  The commission shall be representative of both sexes and of each racial group residing within the City as classified by the most recent U.S. Census Bureau statistics.
